2 weeks

You will start with an overview of the Lufthansa Group and get to know various business units working on sustainable solutions – from reducing plastic on board our airlines to projects involving Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

Sustainability Project 1

6 months

During the first project phase, you will be working with your department on a sustainability issue within the Lufthansa Group. You will also attend seminars and go on excursions related to sustainability.

Social Project

2 weeks

With your team, you'll spend two weeks abroad on a social project as part of the Help Alliance. You'll gain intercultural experience, take on responsibility, and get to know yourself and your colleagues better while doing something good.

6 months

For your second project, you will work in a new area, e.g. technology, cargo, operations, or corporate functions. You can expect the following:

  • Training in presentation skills, storytelling, and pitching
  • Excursions to start-ups and research facilities

Self-Reflection

1 week

Self-reflection is an essential part of the Green Mobility trainee program. This week gives you time to devote to your personal development: Time to reflect on goals, gain new perspectives, and strengthen team cohesion through discussion.

6 months

In the final project, you will explore a topic from previous assignments in greater depth or explore a new area. You will also take part in an experience flight, learn about processes, question them, and gain new perspectives.

  • Master's degree (must be completed prior to starting the program) or PhD
  • Required: Experience in the field of sustainability, e.g. through relevant scientific work (sustainability or mobility) or completed internships

Application Process

Step 1: Online Application

Submit your documents (CV and relevant certificates) via the application portal and fill in a short questionnaire. This way, we can check whether the program and your expectations are a good fit.

Step 2: Online Test

If your profile matches our program requirements, we will invite you to take the online test, which you will have two days to complete. This is a chance for you to demonstrate your cognitive and methodological skills.

Step 3: Video Interview

After passing the online test, we will invite you to a short video interview where you can demonstrate your motivation, personality, and suitability for the Green Mobility traineeship. Please make sure you will be available on these dates.

Step 4: Application Day

The Application Day in Frankfurt includes various elements, including a computer test, a short case study, and an interview with a psychologist. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to meet current trainees in person.

What makes the Green Mobility trainee program stand out?

The Green Mobility trainee program is holistically focused on sustainability. You will work on projects in various areas of the Lufthansa Group, from technology and cargo to Discover Airlines. As part of the program, you will also explore future technologies and research, and link them to customer requirements and economic feasibility. This mix is what makes the program unique.

In which areas of sustainability is the Lufthansa Group already working?

The Lufthansa Group is committed to sustainability in many different areas: Modern fleets, sustainable aviation fuels, operational efficiency, offsetting, intermodal solutions, and the reduction of single-use plastics and waste, to name just a few examples.

Who can apply for the program?

Anyone who has completed a Master's degree is eligible to apply. Proof of completion must be provided at the start of the program, not at the time of application. It is also possible to apply with the German qualifications Diplom, Magisterabschluss or Staatsexamen (state examination) or a similar qualification.

When does the program start, and how long does it last for?

The start date will be updated here as soon as it has been announced.

When will I find out my result for the online test?

You will receive feedback promptly after completing the test.

How can I prepare for the video interview?

What happens on the Application Day?

The day includes a computer test, a psychological interview, a role-play exercise and a presentation (with preparation time). There will also be breaks, refreshments, and opportunities to meet current trainees and program managers.

How can I prepare for the Application Day?

Be yourself, be relaxed, and learn about current sustainability trends in aviation. Reflect on your strengths and consider what you have to offer.

Can I choose my projects?

Yes. Before your first project assignment, you will receive an overview of current project offers, and you will be able to determine your top 3 choices. Typically, you will be assigned one of these projects. For all other projects, you will look for opportunities on your own.

How long does the Green Mobility trainee program last for?

The program lasts for 18 months. As well as completing three projects, you will receive training, go on excursions, and assist with a social project abroad.

Will there be any opportunities to go abroad during the program?

Yes. In addition to the standard component of a two-week social project abroad, there is the possibility of an assignment abroad for up to three months, if branches overseas or Group Airlines offer corresponding sustainability projects.

What kind of employment contract will I receive?

You will receive a permanent employment contract with the Lufthansa Group.

How much will I be paid during the program?

Remuneration for trainees during the program is €62,000. The starting salary upon completion is €69,000, plus a variable bonus.

How many days of annual leave will I have, and will I be able to choose them freely?

You will have 30 days of annual leave. It is best to plan vacations between project phases, to ensure smooth transitions.

Is there a guarantee of employment after completing the program?

You will have a permanent contract from the start. A few months before the end of the program, you will start applying for departments or positions of your choice.

Can I apply for more than one program?

Yes, you can apply for more than one Lufthansa Group trainee program at a time.

What makes the ProTeam trainee program stand out?

ProTeam is a versatile trainee program, which has been firmly anchored in the Lufthansa Group for many years. You can tailor your program individually and choose your own projects. You will also gain insights into the diversity of the group, from airlines and technology to central functions.

Which Lufthansa Group companies are involved in the ProTeam trainee program?

Assignments are possible in all wholly-owned subsidiaries and divisions, e.g. Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Systems, as well as in central departments such as Strategy and HR.

Who can apply for the program?

Anyone who has completed a Master's degree is eligible to apply. Proof of completion must be provided at the start of the program, not at the time of application. Yes. ProTeam is not a fixed rotation program. You will choose your projects based on your interests and strengths, and will have access to the entire Lufthansa Group.

As well as the projects, you can expect the following and more:

  • Airline process knowledge & ground operations experience (incl. Airport Week & crew experience flight)
  • ProInnovation (targeted innovation ideas from external experts & start-ups)
  • ProResponsibility (social project with the help alliance)

What development opportunities are there?

Highlights include individual coaching at the beginning and end of the program, a mentoring and buddy program, feedback after each project, and a week in a monastery for self-reflection.

What kind of employment contract will I receive?

You will receive a permanent employment contract directly with the Lufthansa Group, including all benefits, such as discounts on flights.

Come as you are, just be sure to get a good night’s sleep. Learn about current trends in aviation, reflect on your strengths and think about what you have to offer. What is your motivation? What interests you about the Lufthansa Group? Prove to us that you are interested, and have a few questions ready.

Will there be any opportunities to work on projects abroad?

Yes. As well as an optional project abroad, there is, for example, a social project abroad in cooperation with the Help Alliance.

Is there a guarantee of employment after completing the program?

You will have a permanent contract from the start. A few months before the end of the program, you will start applying for departments or positions of your choice.

When will I receive feedback during the application process?

As long as you have not received a rejection, you are still in the process for the next steps. You can request final feedback on your participation in the applicant day once the application process has been completed.
